Las Matas

22 Mar

Holy days in the mountains of Jose de las Matas
From far away, from Hartford to LA, come and join us
Helping out our brothers around us
Bringing hope with a yellow school bus
Modern days and yet dirt roads pave the way to Las Matas
Culture decays as the workers move away to the city
Help us out, the people are hurting
The lights go out, the water ain’t working
Have we changed a life, saved from an early death?
They have changed mine, changed mine…
Patients make their way to the hospital we make in Las Matas
Helping out our sisters around us,
Bringing hope with a yellow school bus
Medical Missions International

Description: This song was inspired by and is about the medical missions to the Dominican Republic I’ve had the great fortune to participate in. Each year I go along as a translator and general helper to assist a group of doctors and nurses do surgery on the poor. It’s a mind-blowing experience and one of the highlights of my year. The song uses the old yellow school bus we drive around on down there to serve as an image for the hope we bring to the people. People wait for us to show up and are infinitely grateful…
